Sybaris Naomi — Following the great success of the Sybaris Naomi Black “Demi” series, Sybaris has launched the new Wellinto sunglasses. This unique collection blends the concept of “East meets West,” skillfully combining Japanese craftsmanship with European design aesthetics.
The series is patented based on the 1930s French Wellinto Panto design, which was an iconic element of French eyewear at the time. Wellington eyeglasses became very popular in the American Ivy League in the 1950s and are now considered one of the classic frames. It took root in Japan relatively late, after the 2000s, when Takuya Kimura wore them in a TV commercial, which ignited their popularity. Around this time, many brands began selling black-rimmed Wellington eyeglasses with celluloid frames, and this triggered a huge boom as a fashion item, with people who do not have bad eyesight also wearing date glasses. Later, when Johnny Depp, who played a successful writer in the movie “Secret Window” released in 2004, wore the glasses, their intellectual mood came into the limelight and the glasses became a fashion item again.
The unique curves and lines of the frames are inspired by the golden era of French classical style, a period characterized by luxury and grandeur. The bold angles of the front frame convey a strong, masculine look, while the bridge is precisely designed with refined angles and paired with a flat front, forming a minimalist yet elegant structure, enhanced by classic rivet details—a tribute to 1930s French eyewear design.
The Sybaris Naomi series also features a new hinge design, inspired by traditional motifs from Japan’s Hida Mountains. This nature-inspired theme is subtly integrated with the Sybaris logo, bringing a refined and understated touch to the temple. The new design also includes anti-slip details to ensure a secure and comfortable fit.
Despite its bold style, the sunglasses remain comfortable to wear. The special cutting technique lends a refined, rounded-edge design to this retro-inspired style. Each pair is meticulously hand-polished by master craftsmen with over 30 years of experience, ensuring perfect detail and quality.
